Guess he was inspired?

That rendering wouldn't get much love in a critique at a design school. One of my old professors called designs like that "an explosion in a mattress factory".

If you want a model of it, by all means...make it! And...make it better. Please

kids these days simply don't understand the simple concept of purity of line.
all they see are pointless scoops and ducts and wings and bits and they think that is what design is all about.

Re: Nasty.

while we're on BMW concepts, has anyone seen the M5 Concept?

(courtesy of Ultimatecarpages)

Not sure I like this one.
BMW has a habit of showcasing Concepts that are pretty much the production version and if this is the case, then this new M5 looks a little much like just a bigger M3.
What happened?

Re: Nasty.

What happened? Chris Bangle, the genius behind recent resurgence of BMW design has left, that's what happened. Now all BMW are back to the "same sausage, different length" concept. I'm not a big fan of some of the Bangle's designs (E65 anybody?) but he sure made BMWs stand out from a crowd. I simply love most Bangle era BMWs. Now we are back to boring.

Speaking of new M5 - its not that bad. BUT! Considering this is the most ferocious sedan on earth - it could have been SOOOOO much better.

Imo Bangle ruined BMW's image, they used to stand out for being the best of everything, he turned the brand into pretentious mass market durge (1 series) hopefully the likes of which we have seen the last of

I wasn't a massive fan of the last M5 in the looks department but I did like the way it moved, this one is much of the same. Am I right in thinking they've ditched the V10 for a turbo'd V8 or something similar?

Chris Bangle was Chief of Design.
Having a 1 series in the company portfolio wasn't his decision.
