1996 cheyenne dome light and 3rd brake light problems?
1. last summer I decided i wanted to make my 3rd brake light work again and i just figured that the light bulbs were burned out so i replaced all 4 and the 2 inside ones work and the other two don't also the cargo light switch wont turn them on either. Is there a fuse or something that could be burned out? thanks
2. the light that is supposed to come on when the door is open wont come on the two little ones will if you turn them on but not the middle big one. i replaced the bulb and it didnt do anything but if i have the bulb in there and accidentaly touch a metal thing with the screwdriver i was using it will turn on anyone know how to fix this? Thanks |

Re: 1996 cheyenne dome light and 3rd brake light problems?
Sounds like you have a bad ground to the truck's body. Usually, the CHMSL and cargo lights are grounded through the screws that attach it to the roofline. There may be a metal tab that goes from the lights to where the screw hole is and this gets compressed against the body and/or the screw goes through to make electrical contact. Get some scotch Brite pads and clean these up. If the screws are rusty, clean those as well or get new ones.
Hope this helps!

I would also check the fuse that powers the cargo light and the dome light. I believe it is marked Courtesy in the panel. After checking those two thing you may be down to chasing wires because the door switches not working would have nothing to do with it not working by the main switch.
