What did I get myself into?!

My alternator died on me the other day. My question is should i do the timing belt, water pump and seals while im into it this far? Was planning on just replaceing the alternator but the old one went out due to an oil leak from im thinking the front cam seals and the company i bought the rebuilit Isuzu alternator from said they wont honor the warranty if the oil leak into the new one.

If i was to do the timingbelt what parts will i need or ya'll suguest i replace? Not worried about time as i have two other cars.

Also maybe the valve cover gasket is leaking, don't know it i want to tackle that.

What ya think?

by looking at that moter i would clean all that off before i change anyting that is bad i don't know how you could even fined a leak with what you got all over everything. looks like you need to start off with putty knife one bad thing i see is that fram filter a guy got rid of his toyota 4 runner said it was a seal leaking and it had a hole rusted in it put new oil and filter in it and it's still on the road but yah clean so you can fined anything that is bad guy.

good luck.....

Re: What did I get myself into?!

Yeah this is not my doing [dirty engine] bought it from a guy on craigslist for $500 in Feb,2011. The starter was bad we replaced, it started right up on the first crank. Oh yeah the guys said it has been sitting for 6mo or so prior to me buying it from him.

Im thinking that the fan blew what oil was leaking all over the place making it difficult

What do you suggest cleaning it with? Brake Cleaner? Im afraid to power wash do to putting water on the wrong parts.

back in the day we used fuel oil but i gusss brake cleaner would work after you scrape some that off now under the bottom of moter i use oven cleaner and i take it to car wash before i spray. it looks like the leaking oil he lived on a gravel road and it all built up. unless you want to pull moter and clean it your probably going to say screw that?

good luck
