1994 Dodge Grand Caravan LE
127,000 miles 3.3 Hit a deer in Nov 2007, front passenger side damage, got van "fixed" in july 2008 problems started very soon after it was "fixed" ![]() van has always had a high idle problem, idling at around 2000 rpms the list that follows is what has been replaced on the van ![]() grille -- air box -- fenders -- radiator support -- front bumper -- hood -- air cond. condenser -- AC pump -- transmisson cooler -- headlights and bucket assembly -- fog lights -- cooling fan -- air filter box -- rear wiper motor -- radiator -- e5 spark plugs -- plug wires -- struts -- oil filter -- air filter -- fuel filter -- IAC motor -- serp belt & tensior after van was done we noticed there might have been a short somewhere all electric that the garage messed with is as follows --wired fog lights (first they wired them direct to the battery, i made them rewire them) --they replaced the heater control, it was stuck on defrost, upon completion this was still not fixed, had it replaced again --they installed a stereo --and they wired the headlights have a vaccum problem, it seems to suck too much air past the AIC replaced AIC nothing change...replaced EGR solenoid and checked and replaced all lines connected to it nothing changed soon after we brought it home it started stalling, going 55 or 65 mph whatever speed, it didnt matter... it seems to do it more when you slow down. Well heres where it gets interesting ![]() While driving at around 45mph it stalled and made a popping noise, it backfired through the carb... drove it about 10 more miles parked it, let it sit for a while... when we tried to start it up again you could just hear the difference... it sounds louder but muffled?? backfires and pops, has a loss of power, shakes and lurches.... maybe it runs like one of the cylinders are not firing?? let it sit for a couple days started it back up -- no change fault computer codes are reading 16 -- battery 33 25 32 -- i think thats open or short in EGR solenoid 24 55 -- end any help would be so greatly appreciated ![]() thanks to everyone in advanced |

Yup. You've got a mess. I would start with the MIL code 24 which is a Throttle Position Sensor failure. This sensor is key to regulating air/fuel mixture and lets the computer (PCM) know if you are decelerating, accelerating or at idle. If you haven't yet, spend $20 on a Haynes maintenance manual. It has procedures for testing and replacing all the sensors in question.
"have a vaccum problem, it seems to suck too much air past the AIC". As I see it the only way that can happen is if the AIC is opening when it shouldn't. The PCM controls IAC positioning. It's not unheard of to install a bad IAC. How's the wiring to the AIC from the PCM? http://www.obd-codes.com/p0122 http://www.obd-codes.com/p0403

thanks ![]() A LOT! From what ive read that does seem to be the problem, or at least some of the problem... so as soon as im done testing everything out i'll let you know what the verdict is fingers crossed again i cant thank you enough, youve saved a headache already |

i was thinking and the trouble code for the egr said something about water might be collecting near the egr making it malfunction... that might explain why the van only stalled in the rain at first
![]() today, we had an old erg and installed it to see if it made a dif. it did, it seems it did away with the miss. so we are going to buy a new one and replace it, along with the tps... i'll keep you updated, thanks again |

Thanks for the update. Might try inspecting the TPS connector for moisture before changing it. Could also disconnect the battery to clear the codes and see what codes comes back once the moisture is gone.
