Re: 94 PU running after parked won't start
I ususally try giving it a shot of carb cleaner- if it runs, then fuel delivery is your issue.

as mentioned give intake a squirt of fuel see if it starts up for a short time.. if you had a low fuel supply the pump could have locked up... |

Re: 94 PU running after parked won't start
Be glad it wasn't an OBDII truck (96+) - that FP repair would have been twice as much!!

Re: 94 PU running after parked won't start
being a very old vehicle you have to expect these type of failures. 360.oo for a repair shop to repair this is good price. these pump are expensive.. replace fuel filters every couple of years and keep fuel level above the 1/4 mark.. you don't want to do this again.

Very similar fuel pump on my '93 Lumina. Internet price for the Delco pump is about $70. Cost me $650 installed, with the "tourist surcharge" at an out-of-town shop where the car died. Quote:
Filters last me five--ten years.

Never once plugged a fuel filter. Never had ONE SINGLE PROBLEM I could blame on the ethanol. Never rotted fuel hose, never ruined a carburetor or injector or fuel pump...nothing. In the early years--early/mid 1980's--there were other folks that got a tankful of polluted gasoline. Apparently, I was lucky. The ethanol cleaned all the crap out of the underground service station tanks; and all the water and such from leaky underground tanks went into the vehicle tank. I know of exactly one person in the last ten years that's gotten water in the gasoline. (My uncle, from Denver, about three years ago.) The EPA made all the service stations remove the leaky tanks! Ethanol in gasoline is not the antichrist. It's terrible farm, food, fuel, environmental, and economic POLICY created by corrupt politicians...but it's fine fuel.

with any vehicle that has a defective fuel evap system or metal fuel tanks then its all BAD ! with boating engines this reaches a level of big expensive repairs. also any fuel remaining in the fuel tanks must be removed at the end of the use period. with fuel that was non ethanol no problem of this separation or any damage , if the fuel was stabilized for 2yrs this would cause no ill effects. If you read up about these issues you will find that non ethanol fuel is baned in the US. this has created a movement to reverse this decision so that off road vehicles can have the benefits of non ethanol. what I have experienced lately is chinese rubber components failing, when used in the fuel/vacuum systems. when replacing any rubber components on our engines best to stick with OEM PARTS......... |

2. GM is sourcing a lot of replacement parts from China. The original outside mirrors on my Luminas were made in Canada. The replacements come from China. Originals hold the shiny black finish for fifteen + years; other than where they get hit by sand or pebbles thrown up by traffic. The Chinese replacement was entirely grey within six months.

with rubber fuel lines you must not use aftermarket chinese crap.. very dangerous ! The ethanol does damage rubber unless it is made specificly for ethanol use..I am not sure on this but , I bet those cheap chinese made fuel pumps are using rubber compound not manufactured for ethanol use.. this would explain why these fail in a few months.. |
