95 Legacy stuck in park won't start

My 95 legacy is stuck in park. The shift lever is jammed. I turn the key and the car seems to have plenty of charge in the battery but nothing happens. The engine won't even attemp to start and I can't move the shift to neutral to even try it there and I cn't even get it towed.
Anyone ever run into this and is there a fix?

Re: 95 Legacy stuck in park won't start

Simplest solution (which I assume you've tried) is you have to engage the brakes for the thing to come out of park. Do the brake lights come on?

Second method is written in the owners manual. Some have a button near the shifter than can override the park lock. Some need a trim panel removed to override the park lock.

If there is juice in the battery and several things aren't working, I'd look for a bad/stuck relay or one of the fusible links is open. These items should be under the hood in the electrical box.

Sam, we have the same problem - Impreza is stuck in Park and ABS light is on - also heater fan does not run. Have tried all sugestions listed but no go.
Wondering if you succeeded.
