Were to put my glasspack?
I have a 1981 chevy monte carlo and i put a 350 in it, i recently bought an 18" glasspack for it, i have not yet put it on, i have single exhaust and a no cat system. i want loud but i also want a deep throaty sound, i am gonna run straight pipe except for the glasspack. Were should i put the glasspack for the best sound?
Thank you, all answers are appreciated. |

After installing cherry bomb you will have to wait for it to burn in/out to get the proper tune. I would start with where the oem muffler was. A muffler shop may be able to help on the best place to install it.

Re: Were to put my glass pack?
PS
Dual exhaust usually gives better tones.

Re: Were to put my glass pack?
I very much so agree but that is just not in the budget, i have to buy a new cross member to do dual exhaust and the price of that and the exhaust together is out of my price range right now, all my money went to the motor lol

Any vechical a1980 or after came out with a cat on them. A older moter does not count. All 80 up requires a cat.

Re: Were to put my glass pack?
well i dont plan on taking it out of town and cant afford to at 8mpg, all the car is used for is cruising, local car shows and a drag race here and there in which case it is trailered in so im not concerned with federal laws, but thank you very much for your concern.

I remember them glass packs when I was a kid 50 years ago. Made them old 6 cylinders and small v8 sound mean. Ever hear of the old split mainifold for older 6 cylinders. Split mainifold and twin exhaust with burnt in glass packs you could shake the windows and doors in car and on buildings. Good Luck

Re: Were to put my glass pack?
I guess it depends on what you mean by "better".
A dual exhaust with no cross - over pipe is imho a "cop-calling stereo system", (to borrow and old phrase). It is loud, resonates, and reverbarates in imho an unpleasant manner. A dual exhaust with a cross over pipe sounds pretty much like a single...... the sound pulses seem to cancel each other out, somewhat. Imo its slightly quieter, resonates less and is more pleasant to live with. Personally, I am a big fan of a well-designed single exhaust. It's neat, compact, runs hotter, with less condensation for a longer lifespan, quieter and, if well designed, flows enough for performance. (That being said, about half my cars have duals )
