3 sfe long v short block
What is the difference between the long block and short block. Have a 89 celica ST having trouble finding engine to replace it. But, it seems that the is a short and long block. What if any is the differnence.
Another question does anyone know the weight of the engine without the tranny. Last edited by Bulldog130135; 03-01-2011 at 10:49 AM. |

Re: 3 sfe long v short block
The short block is just the assembled block with what is directly inside the block between the head gasket and the oil pan flange: pistons, rods, crank, bearings. Basically, what would be replaced with major engine overhaul.
No heads, cams (if OHC), valves, accessories, manifolds, torque converter, etc. It is a very generic engine which can be used in many applications. Long block is the short block plus installed heads, cams, valves - basically, the power of the engine. No accessories, torque converter, manifolds, fuel injection components, etc.
