2001 Grand Prix Mystery Hose

OK So I've done lots of work on this car and everything always turns out really good with the instruction that I have gotten here but being honest I am no mechanic....I just know how to follow instructions really good and I'm determined to do my own work.

With that being said I allowed a shop to put in a new transmission in my baby and when I got it back I noticed this hose coming out of the plastic engine cover that I swear I don't remember ever seeing before. Almost like the routed it wrong or something.

Can you guys tell me what the hose is and let me know if I am crazy by thinking I've never seen this thing sticking out like this before. Also if it is routed wrong can you tell me where this thing is supposed to be routed? Thanks!

Pic 1) This is what I originally noticed that had me thinking "I never seen that hose before"

Pic 2) Next two pics are where the hose connects to so that you can tell me what it is for

Final Pic) Shows the routing of this hose without the plastic engine cover. Please tell me if this is routed incorrectly and if so where should it be. Also it seems like these spark plug wires don't look right to me either but I couldn't figure out the right place they should be at either. Not sure if anyone has a pic of how these should really look with the plastic cover taken off.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix Mystery Hose

The tranny shop must have cracked your original hose, as it was much smaller in diameter and routed behind the supercharger instead of around it. The hose is going from your throttle body to the Evap. solenoid if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah. Why exactly they would be doing anything with your motor is beyond me. That hose should be able to be left in place when removing a trans. As Jmein9008 said, the original hose is plastic, and gets routed behind. I will have to agree with you, that "repair" looks like plain out @$$. You could email ed morad or take a trip through a boneyard to see if you can find the replacement.

Re: 2001 Grand Prix Mystery Hose

I went to the dealer and tried to explain what hose I was looking for and the parts guy was no smarter than me. LOL He said he didn't know what I was talking about. How would you guys explain this hose if you were trying to buy it. Here are two more pictures...

Re: 2001 Grand Prix Mystery Hose

That specific hose is used for vacuum from the throttle body to the evaporative emissions purge solenoid or MAP sensor. Save yourself some time and effort and just Richtazz a PM. He can get you the GM part number(s). But unless it is leaking or damaged I see no issues with using it. The hose clamps are a good idea.
