Re: 98 GP GT 3800 na with P0171

Ok great...just in time...I'm heading to lunch in few to pick up the bulbs. I'll grab 6.
I don't really remember why he wanted to replace the plastic part. I think he said it was warped or something.
I put a new O2 in it when the p0171 started...per my mechanic's advice. Also, I had replaced the PCV valve a while back but also just took it out a few ago when I did the TB and cleaned it and put it all back in.
Ok what is the MAP accordian thing your talking about? That's the first I have heard about that.
Rob
ps..thanks for the thoughts and prayers...I also lost my nephew and his best friend in a car crash less than a year ago so my family is really tired of getting these calls at 3-4 in the morning.

Ahh I know where the MAP sensor is now. I had that off of course when messing with the PCV. I will check that out more closely tonight and see if it looks ok. Will look for the accordian thing for sealing too.

You car should either have a MAF sensor, or a MAP sensor, The MAF sensor is already replaced.

Try resetting the computer, and control modules.
Disconnect the battery, a touch the positive cable to car ground for a few seconds. With the cleaning and all the new parts, it's time for your car todo some relearning.

Re: 98 GP GT 3800 na with P0171

I guess the 3800's have both. i have already replaced the MAF and I know it also has the MAP on top of the PCV valve. I also have a scanner so I have reset the codes many times and also had the battery unhooked for 24 hours when I cleaned the TB and repalced the gasket. Also, cleaned up the battery terminals at the same time.

Incorrect, GP's along with many other makes and models have both a Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (MAP), and Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF). As the OP stated, the MAF is located in the throttle body, and the MAP is located above the PCV valve.
