Unhappy Chevy 1500 pickup

I'm having trouble starting up the engine because they key kept on locking itself or something. I cant turn the key to start the engine. By the way the car has over 100 thousand km on it and I'm not sure if its the key or something else is wearing out. Anyone know how much it will cost to have this problem fixed at a dealer? Thanks for your help!

your mileage is low for this problem. could be your key is worn from how you carry it.

A WORN KEY WILL CAUSE YOUR PROBLEM. GO TO A LOCK SMITH IF YOU HAVE NO BACKUP KEY. \\
must always have a backup key.

if you go to dealership they will charge big $$$$$$.

thanks for your suggestion, but the the thing is i have no problem opening the door with the key. I do have a back up key, but still experience the same problem when i insert the key to the ignition, i have to really play with it in order to turn it. I have never had this problem in the past.

when I say back up key, I mean a new key that was never used.

If the key cut edges are worn/rounded this is no good. many have replaced a lock cylinder,,, because the key was bad only.

do AS I SUGGESTED if this back up key is worn .

keys cut at non lock shops are normally trouble. the lock smith will , cut the key correctly.

post back how it is going. when you turn key it should rotate with little resistance. if you have to pull/push in/out to get it to rotate this too indicates the key is shot/or not cut correctly.

Re: Chevy 1500 pickup

If the key works normally in your door lock, it's possible that some pocket lint, something sticky on the key from weeks ago, or some other small debris has found its way inside the tumblers for the ignition lock. Have you tried shooting some WD-40 in there?
