where to find tranny dip stick 98 TC?
I've replaced all the fluids and I wanted to check the transmission fluid level and I can't seem to find it. It's either hidden or I'm blind as a bat.

Re: where to find tranny dip stick 98 TC?
I found the answer on another forum:
KManiac 03-21-2006, 10:51 PM I just changed the transmission fluid in my father's 1997 Town Car, so I should be able to help you with this one. The transmission oil dipstick is located between the back of the engine and the firewall, to the passenger side of the centerline (from front to rear) of the engine compartment. The dipstick and fill tube are painted black. The top of the dipstick is a round wire loop. There is no labeling or fancy pull handle like the oil dipstick. Open your hood, walk to the passenger side of the engine compartment and look behind the engine. You should be able to see it. Be careful when you pull it out. There is a metal lipped edge on the top of the firewall, and I scraped the back of my hand several times while checking the fluid level. The dipstick in my father's car was easy to find since his car is painted white (white car, white firewall). If you have a black or dark colored car, it will be harder to find the black dipstick. It's there, just get a flashlight to help you see. I hope this helps. If this doesnt work check the owners manual |

That's correct, the Transmission oil dipstick is located at the back between the engine and the firewall, it has a black looped handle and close to the center of the engine compartment.
Best regards, Oscar.

Re: where to find tranny dip stick 98 TC?
Remember to check the ATF level with the transmission at operating temperatures and with the engine running, in Park. To get the fluid up to operating temperatures (150-170 degrees F), it will take atleast 20 minutes of city driving. Longer if it is below 50 degrees F outside.

Re: where to find tranny dip stick 98 TC?
i can't believe I missed it. yes, I found it and was able to check the fluid and top it off a little. I also have a 62 Lincoln Continental Conv. which is a lot easier to work on that's for sure. the 98 TC runs well but it shudders a bit when I'm accelerating and once I'm up to speed it rides nice. it does blow some smoke. not sure if it's cause it sat for a while, bad gas etc. and/or the SeaFoam & Lucas products that I've added to the oil & gas. I've also used CRC MAF cleaner too. All of the fluids have been changed and they all look good now. This is a very very comfy car to ride in to be sure. I have a mechanic buddy who is supposed to come by in the next few days and I would like to point him in the right direction since I'm paying him time & materials. thanks for all your help.

Re: where to find tranny dip stick 98 TC?
Don't feel bad. I couldn't find it right away in my 2003 Town Car. It's in the same stupid location. Some times you would think they could make some changes when they change the body styles.

They did change it in either 2003.5 or 2004. It is in the same location, but sits much higher and much more readily accessible.
