99 Buick century custom question.

Just bought my 99 Buick century thinking it needed new computer so bought it from a convent in jersey for 200 then find out it needed a cam sensor then got it all up and running. So my question is, I want to put a cold air intake in.... Well I went to remove the intake housing and found something that looks like an electrical system thing behind it.... My question is what is it I have a 3.1 liter v6 sfi if some one could help me out would like to have this project finished b4 winter lol....

Re: 99 Buick century custom question.

You probably found a MAT sensor in the intake duct and a MAF sensor at the intake end of the duct. Considering the cross-sectional size of the MAF you can determine what size intake duct you need. Don't be surprised to find that the factory ductwork is already bigger than the MAF and no matter what super-performance high-volume deep-space cold intake system you bolt on the MAF will still be a restriction. You might still go faster by having a lighter wallet, though.

Re: 99 Buick century custom question.

if you are referring to the air cleaner housing, that thing behind it is the PCM. It is designed that way so the intake air stream flows over the PCM to cool it. Remove it, your PCM will most likely run hot and fail prematurely. Finally, the factory air box flows 30% more air than your engine is capable of ingesting, so a CAI will do nothing but lighten your wallet on this particular car (unless you want to impress the dude at the quickie-lube with the polished tube most CAI's come with).
