1994 kia spotage

i need help. what is the chargeing voltage suposed to be on my 1994 kia sportage. it is charging at 16 volts. last time i checked cars normally charge at 14. is this high for a stock kia sportage?

..well yes, 16V is a bit high...do you measure that at the battery or at the alternator?
However, it is not totally unusual for the COLD alternator to be high on voltage...GM alternator regulators commonly do that, then fall back near 14.5 after a few minutes.

ALso....can you verify if the voltage goes up and down with engine RPM....a sign that there may be a real problem with the regulator.
By the way. I changed the original KIA alternator to a GM model....
