Smile Improving Suspension

My '93 Wrangler ( 79K miles, 6 cylinder ) rides like a 'rock', even and most notably over the pot-holed city streets of Chicago. I feel like a ping-pong ball bouncing around the cabin as I drive down the street. I can 'feel' every crack in the pavement. Would replacing the shocks ( never changed ) significantly improve the 'ride'? Is there ANY other way ( changing or 're-setting' ( to increase height ) the leaf springs? PPLLEEAAAASE HHHEELLLP!
