1993 F-150 Rattle
I bought a 1993 F-150 with a 5.8 engine 176,000 miles on it. The engine sounds good at an idle, but when you rev it up slow it picks up a rattle and as the rpm comes on up it goes away. If you crack it wide open it does not rattle at all. I am wondering if this is the timing chain hitting the cover or if it is something else. The oil pressure is seems to be good. The rattle seems a little too loud to be spark knock.

Re: 1993 F-150 Rattle
I had another ford guy tell me it could be preignition due to carbon build up. I have the plenum and valve covers off now trying to locate the noise, so i guess i will put it all back and try running some seafoam through it.

Re: 1993 F-150 Rattle
With 176k I would recommend keep driving it, if it is a problem, it will present itself.
Crap advice I know, but you will spend a fortune throwing parts at it and if you just drive it, it will either present a problem, or you will just decide to live with it. Any chance you could sound record it with a cell phone or something and post it up?
