2003 Camry

What do ya'll think of a 2003 camry SE with 188,000 miles, in excellent mechanical condition with the exception of a failing steering rack. Would you buy it for 1,700?

Re: 2003 Camry

I will give you my philosophy on buying a vehicle in this price range.

The average car being from 2 to 6 model years old with average miles and good condition depreciate at a rate of approximately $2500.annually " luxury cars have a much higher depreciation factor "

That tells me, if I could locate a car for under $2500. that will have no issues beyond a year of driving, my investment will have been secured.

Model year - miles - type of vehicle - options - consumer reports etc takes a back seat, present condition is all that matters.

So, yes I would consider buying the Camry even with the scary number "188 " if it passes my criteria, test drive http://www.usedcartips.org/TESTDRI.html if car still of interest after the test drive an independent complete mechanical inspection http://www.usedcartips.org/MECHANI.html , the last step will be the negotiation process.
