M A X I M A letters on the trunk..

Hi all - My boyfriend just bought a 99 Maxima GLE, fully loaded. Pewter color with black leather interior, etc. It's darn near mint condition, considering the high miles (87k) with the exception of the letters on the trunk lid. They are peeling at best and look terrible. Has anyone else had this problem? Has anyone else removed the lettering? Does anybody not want their lettering and might be interested in selling it to me?

if u have the old letters still, jus put some double sided tape on them and stick em back on, or jus go ahead and take them off, personally, i think the max looks better without all of that on the truck

That's the problem the "chrome" finish has bubbled and peeled partially off the plastic lettering. We may just leave them off altogether. Any suggestions for the safest/easiest way to remove them?

Might as well just take them off. I used a $25$ heatgun from Home Depot to take my MAXIMA sign off. Took about 10-15 minutes total. If you decide to take them off, just heat them up a little ( keep heatgun from the letters about 1 1/2 - 2 inches away otherwise ur car paint will start bubbling) and then use tooth floss to get letters off. But if you still want the letters on the trunk, dont use double-sided tape, because 1st-it will look uglyer 2nd-because of rain and snow that double-sided tape will come off. I bought some glue from WallMart for like 3 bucks, which is the same type of glue as they use to glue those letters onto the car at the car assemblies. (The name of glue is STIX-ON CONTACT POWER POXY. All Purpose Adhesive) Laterz

dont need a heat gun to do that tho, i jus used a hairdryer and some glu gone gel stuff. the glu didnt come off right away, but after i washed it like 2 times after that, there was nothing left. u will prob have the outline of the letters left on some spots, but nothing big

If you want to get rid of those outlines, u can go to any carwash and ask them to buff your trunk, or u can do it urself, by buying the buffer as I did, which i bought for 15 bucks at WallMart. Altho your glue didnt come off right away because you used a hairdryer, because it doesnt generate as much heat as heatgun. But its another way of doing it, which is a less expensive way
