97 GTP ABS problem
Hello friends I am having a problem with my Grand Prix and I was wanting to see if I could get a few ideas about what it might be.
I have a 1997 Grand Prix GTP with the digital DIC with the boost meter, tire pressure and low track light on it. Incase thats of any help to this. My ABS light has been going on and off for pro about 2 weeks now. I would come on and when I would turn the car off and turn it back on and the light would be off. It would only come on at random times usually when I would hit a bump in the road just right. When the light comes on the Check Tire Pressure light comes on with it. Also when the light comes on it gets a little stiff to steer. Not anything major but I can tell a difference. The front rotors were warped pretty bad so I just changed the two in the front and the pads to go with them. Now the light is on constantly. I went to auto zone to see if they coud scan it but was told that you have to have a ABS scaner which they dont have. Does anyone have any ideas on what this could be? Any thoughts and ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thank You |

Re: 97 GTP ABS problem
you have all the classic symptoms of a bad front hub bearing/wheel speed sensor. They will start out intermittent, then steadily get worse until the light is on all the time. The ABS, trac-off, magnasteer variable steering and tire pressure monitoring are all tied into the wheel speed sensor signal.

Re: 97 GTP ABS problem
what he said ^ but do make sure that the plugs are connected properly because mine were just disconnecting randomly and once i unplugged and replugged the sensors the lights went away
