Now that AC oil filters are in the aftermarket junk category, what readily available filters would you guys reccomend?

Re: Oil Filters ?
I only use WIX. They are sometimes hard to find. I get mine at O'Reileys. You can also get them at NAPA under NAPA Gold Filters. They are made by Wix but have the NAPA gold name on them. One of the best filters on the market.

I use K&N oil filters, as I have had good luck with them.

Re: Oil Filters ?
Okay, just bring it on! I know all you guys like to bash the FRAM oil filters but I never had any problems with them, I use the Though Guard for High mileage and Valvoline 10W30 High mileage motor oil. Like I said never a problem, the truck had 104,000 miles on it when I bought it 5 years ago and I will hit the 200,000 in the next couple of weeks! Just my take, you can take it or leave it!

Re: Oil Filters ?
This article should set you straight on oil filters.
http://minimopar.knizefamily.net/oil...e.html#pl30001 According to this article and another one (can't find the link) Purolator Pure one and Wix are the best filters. Both articles rate Fram with a strong hold on last place.

Re: Oil Filters ?
I agree, the first tests were done in 1999 but at the bottom of the first page it says "updated 2-19-08", not quite 2 years ago.

Re: Oil Filters ?
Thanks for the replies. I don't know that any brand oil filter is going to affect engine longevity much, changing oil regularly probably has more affect. I was just disappointed to hear that the AC filters were not made to the same quality levels as in the past, and wondered what everyone else reccomended.

If the filter media breaks down or not installed correctly you will have sudden engine damage.. particle size of the filtration does effect engine life/wear if you off road or live in a dusty area this is where the AMSOIL products should be considered... go to these amsoil sites they have a lot of good info as well with these issues... wix/purolator pure one...these are my approved filters based on inspection of the internals of these filters.. |

I also switched from AC Delco ( a 25 year user of these, to WIX. As previously stated, NAPA gold are the same and are easier to obtain in many areas.
