Re: 2000 Silverado 5.3L 1500 4x4
yes true, but since there was a magnet on the drain plug...if there were any particles at all in there they wouldve stuck on the magnet at some point and time indicating gear chewing right? I think its probably the yoke & u-joint combination thats causing this clank/thunk

with this being a truck clanks/clunks are the norm...what about the rear wheel locking up ? cracks not wear is the issue like I stated.....the teeth if cracked will fall off the the dif will lock up. the inside of the cover has a magnet..the cover has a dimple, the inside of the cover were this dimple is is a good sized magnet where the gear teeth throw the oil onto the cover. just trying to help you understand what they did is not correct... the drain plug is to reduce spillage only.... |

Re: 2000 Silverado 5.3L 1500 4x4
you had better hang around forums like this one. also get a good repair manual for your vehicle. you got a lot to learn ....even if your not the guy thats gonna get dirty ...it is best to know your vehicle as good as you can so that you don't get screwed, when the vehicle needs repairs..there is alot of dishonest/incompetent repair shops out there.

Re: 2000 Silverado 5.3L 1500 4x4
I think the Chilton manual is a little more detailed. It also has the wiring diagrams in it. I don't think Clymer does. For the drivetrain I got the GM manual as the Chilton/Chlymer has very little detail on tranny/TC/rear ends.
