Re: 1.8T vs. VR6

just one more thing to add about the VR6.... it sounds soooo much nicer than the 1.8t piiiissshhh noice as it dumps... us dubbers with the VR6 engines purr and gargle with balls haha. i know people just put chips in the 1.8T engines but realistically you don't just wana stick a chip in it and leave it especially if your planning on going to stage 2 chip aswell, you should think about a intercooler and such. and theres a clip for under your gas pedal to remove turbo lag thats also a good idea theres a few other thing to do as well but i'm sure if u buy your chip from a shop they'll tell you what you should do

Re: 1.8T vs. VR6

it doesnt really matter which you choose as far as power. both are well in the 800whp area maxed out (12v that is). the 1.8t will always be a more balanced car. and i dont know why anyone is worried about a vr torque curve when the 1.8t makes full boost at 2200 rpm

Re: 1.8T vs. VR6

This is an old thread but i'll add my two cents anyways... the issue with the vr6 is the fact that it puts extra weight on the nose of an already nose-heavy car. People here seem to be arguing in favor of the vr6 on acceleration numbers alone, however I would say that on a day-to-day basis, the 1.8t will make you happier. The balance is better, creating more lively handling (i.e. less push), and it has a super-flat torque curve, so there is always power there for passing/squirting around town etc. (as long as you aren't in to high of a gear). On the topic of chipping, someone commented that if you chip a 1.8t, then you could supercharge/turbo a vr6. A chip may cost about 500 bucks, but to turbo a vr6 would cost upwards of 3 grand... so not really a comparison there. Plus, my 1.8t cruises at like 33 mpg on the highway going 80, which is awesome. Cheers.
