Steering wheel shakes after new struts
Had Meineke put new struts in a 1998 toyota camry (about 130,000 miles). When they replaced the struts, they broke the ABS sensor (which they then replaced for free). Since the replacement of the ABS sensor, the steering wheel shakes like crazy when going above about 55-60 mph. Any thoughts what might be wrong? Do I need to rebalance the wheels?
Tire pressure checks out fine. Tires were rotated a few thousand miles ago. Thanks. |

Re: Steering wheel shakes after new struts
Take it back to the shop and have them fix the problem before your warranty expires...typically 1 month or 1,000 miles. The car should have had a wheel alignment after the struts were replaced, and they should have at least asked you if the tires needed to be rotated and balanced.
Other than that, potential causes of shaking/vibration at high speeds are usually worn ball joints and/or tie rod ends, and less commonly a worn steering rack. Get back to them pronto. Hope this helps!

Re: Steering wheel shakes after new struts
Other than making things right, don't go back to that place.
