Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

Hello,

i want to show you my actually Project.
Please excuse my bad english.

The FORD RS 200.
There is it also as kit in 1:24, however he costs over 100€. My project will become cheap straight probably not, but for me that is away the goal.

Everything began with the following Resin Body which I with ebay purchased by auction.

Now, after several putties meet, to sharpen and air intakes saw look them in such a way.

Around the original more near come I in the back several air discharge openings cut out.

Also I had to only consider because of the taillights. But after study of several building reports my choice fell on the clear glass parts BMW 320 from the 70ts. Those were available with www.nimpex.de as spare parts.

I will probably take the rounds headlights from the Escort Cosworth. The Rallymodell has auxiliary headlights on the hood. These have 8mm diameter, to be needed here scarcely 7mm, but I will sand the whole off.

The next walked now is fine putties of the priming body. I must after-prime still some holes and most Sicken. The output body was probably in a Silliconform manufactured. There some fit not completely in such a way. I will manufacture myself, as soon as I am content with the form and the details, a female form. This will become very complex probably. Of casting-technical to base I will make six-part form. Then I can manufacture as many as I need myself. I would like to arrange gladly the rear flap and the doors to open. Since I have however only the body, I need still another a chassis, an engine and interior. In addition I ordered myself the following kit.

The Peugeot 205 rally. Likewise with central engine like Ford. There I must make however some changes the Peugeot there am a little smaller like Ford.

Here the body and the casting of the internal form. Those still another a little more beautifully made if everything is poured.

To make here now the body on the casting and begun the division.

The back turned off.

the driversite

the other site

Here are now the pictures of the first body:

I am actually content thereby. Before that to pour I had to make still another small correction. The particulars have I divide with screw it me would have otherwise perhaps slipped fixed there. Thus went however problem-free. I must test only the correct shape with the resin quantity. With the first attempt I took 100g of each component. With half I also get along. Only which does not please me is a small depression on the roof. I will however prime and then in the form will again after-pour those. The rear disk has also one unform. That is however all the same to me because the disks anyway cut off. Now I can open after heart desire the doors and cut off for rear flap. When inclined goes pours oneself I a new.

Here now the current " Stage of development! "

now I was omitted the form so adapted that the disks alike am with to pour. So i dont must cut always the doors out . Meanwhile I tinkered also a form to warm forms of the disks.

Now the actually part of Building:

The Chassis ist always finished.
I try to make a hinge for the doors and i work on the engine with sets and the other stuff.

greets

Re: Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

Why didn't you take the simple way and use silicon rubber to make the mould?!

Re: Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

Very interesting approach to one of my favorite rally cars of all time. Have you seen this one from rallysport models? I considering that one but since there is the real deal from Modeler's for auction as well I can't seem to make up my mind.

Anyways looking forward to seeing more progress!

Re: Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

Great Work so far.

The original car utilised quite a few Ford Sierra Parts. The doors and thus the original windscreen angle / shape as well as the rear lights were transferred directly from the European Ford Sierra. For the rear lenses and windscreen you might wish to try Tamiya Sierra XR4i or RS 500 Parts. Also the RS200's BDT engine is a derivative of the BDA twin cam motor which is modeled by Esci / Revell in their Ford Escort RS1800 rally car kits.

For reference shots check out www.rs200.org

Various interior and engine shots can be found here. http://s171.photobucket.com/albums/u.../models/RS200/

Re: Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

great work, the investment (wrong decals, wrong BMW320 lights, mould, polistil ebay body, 2 sets wheels, P205 kit, pe parts??......?x shipping) is much cheaper than ~100,- for a good kit, I understand

Yeah your right....but my Kit is singularly.

Everybody can buy a Kit.That is no problem.
I love to work on parts that i dont can buy.

Believe me,sometime i wish i had bought that Kit.
But when i buy one, than i buy the Modelers Kit and not the one from Reji.
The Kit from Modellers is much better, but the want round about 250€.

Irgendwann gehts weiter damit.
Eines Tages wird er schon fertig werden.

I have the Reji kit with full engine detail, I sold last year my Modelers for ~120,-, the RS 200 is good for a REJI kit, the Modelers kit is also not perfect, but your copied ebay Polistil body is the worst base, my opinion

I want fun to build models but what you do is no fun for me

I completely disagree with you, that's simply false !
Look at the modelers rear, everything behind the seats is simply unaccurate if not false and poorly detailed compared to the Reji model and BBA design models which have details molded seperately and not "one block" as the modelers one, which more appears as a Serie200 model than as a racing one...
I'm even almost sure that many details as the intercooler aren't there in the modelers kit...
This makes a big difference for me about what is better but maybe you're only talking about the resin quality... For sure Modelers should be better on this point, but that should be the only one for this kit ! And the Reji cast isn't really bad on the RS200.
For me the Reji kit is the best, with the BBA design, the modelers is behind on every points (accuracy, price, availability... etc) except maybe the resin quality itself. And no need to talk about the recast of Ebay seller...

So now let's see what you'll do with yours...!

Re: Ford RS 200 Group B Rally Car

You spend lots of time and work - nevertheless: I never saw a 4-part mold ?!?!

I´d prefer to buy a kit, then I save money, time and can build other kits, too
