Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

Canton makes a pretty cool aluminum coolant tank replacement: http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...++++1&comp=LRS

Make sure you bleed the system that's the only time I've ever overheated. I was amazed that it happend, must have vapor locked and blew coolant all over. Got the air out and all was well. Doesn't self bleed well. I "think" this Mustang system needs the large overflow tank to work right.

Don't remove the thermostat as this may cause the car to over heat. System needs some flow restriction to keep the water in the radiator long enough to conduct heat out.

Fuel injected cars will need >180d for the computer to run the car properly...else will be too rich.

You can get racing thermostat that is fixed open or just go with a good qualtiy replacement.

So does anyone actually have the pics of what Gary did to his cars? I had them on an old computer and cannot find them. Tried searching for them on here to no avail.

I have pictures. I have asked eric to post them here. It is a custom catch can that he makes for his early model mustangs and put on my (his old) Panoz. It serves as both the breather for the valve covers and the overflow for the radiator. The smaller hose is connected 2nd radiator cap on the passenger-side of the car which also helps with air bubbles when filling...etc. He also has an elective fan on the car out of a 4.6L mustang (clearly marked on the top). He maybe making more of these for folks if interested.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

Looks like it does both.

The thing with the SBF cooling system is you need the radiator cap at the highest point to get air out of the system. With the cap in the upper radiator hose, you acheive this. Put a 20lb cap on the radiator and a 16lb on the fitting and it should work. Then just use a catch can approved by whatever sanctioning body your running with.

You can see in the pic below a custom piece I had made to make the cap the highest point in my Cobra.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

Yes it does both. The two Earl connectors are the breathers off the valve covers and the small black hose is from the 2nd radiator cap...highest point to help with bubbly.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

Interesting... I could have sworn I remember him doing it another way w/ a new tank on the driver's side of the radiator.

I guess I'll leave mine alone for now and pull the e-fan.
