Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

I think I remember Gary Jones removed his fan assembly and the coolant reservior in favor of something much smaller. Anyone else change it up to cut some weight and make things more open? Pics?

I will get some pics on Monday of what Gary Jones did on 2 GTRAs, one is mine and one is another customer's, if the setups are different.

I will have eric posts the pics, Monday once I get them.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

I unplugged my fan and ran all weekend with no problem. I've since removed the fan all together. As for the tank, I would like to see mine go but I know these motors can be tough to get all of the air out of the cooling system when the radiator cap is so low.

yeah the fan is irrelevant unless youre sitting in the pits, I ran my M3 with no fan for an entire season with no issues.

I got rid of the fan some time last year. The temp stays at 180.

Neat info on the fan... what happens when I'm sitting on the starting grid at VIR getting ready to go? Do you guys just trun your cars off?

I guess I'm spoiled... when I was tracking my Z06 I'd put the windows up w/ the AC and stereo on for a bit

Mine can sit and idle for a long time and not get hot. When it does finally get warmer then "cold", It usually stays right around 180.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

Brian,

Ford don't work like Chevys. When I am staging on pit out I turn my car off and leave the A/C on. According to the Ford manual put the orange key in the on position and the bottom right togle switch in the on position. That will keep the A/C turned on. And don't forget to put ice in the Cool Shirt cooler.

Yes, a cool shirt is required. Unless you have the new roadster version.

Re: Anyone replace the mustang coolant reservoir with something smaller?

My car runs water temp around 210 F during the race. I wonder why it's so much hotter than yours? It's a new motor with less than 2 hours on it, so there could still be higher friction on components. I'd expect the water temp to decrease over the next couple of weekend races.

My fan runs for 15 minutes after a race. I've considered removing the thermostat and increasing the water flow. Oil temps are 220 to 230 F, so I'm glad I'm using synthetic.
