Re: 92 Accord Starting problems

No, The Check Engine Light does not blink. If I short out the service connector I get no codes. The only code I get is from the ECU when I pull the carpet back and watch the light flash 8 times. There is no 88 so I think it is repeating 8. |

I would also try to test all three sensors in the distributor. Sam

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
OK: New computer added
The distributor was checked and had no problems. Now the check engine light is on all the time. What would I check next? |

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
Jumper the service connector and read the stored codes. Something is causing the CEL to be on and only the ECU can tell you. And if you gave this to the mechanic to fix and he knows Hondas, he should be able to fix it.

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
With the new computer the code is now 7 throttle position sensor.
Hard to believe but they left the wire off! I believe the new computer to be necessary but I haven't checked it yet! She runs like a top now! See ya in another 100,000. Thanks for all the fantastic help! |

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
So what do you think was the solution to the original problem of the car having hard starting problems?

Because when I shorted the jumper on the first computer there were NO codes from the CEL. Now with the new computer I get the code and it takes me straight to the problem. However, I failed to check under the carpet to see what was going on with the ECU. I could force the fault but anyone could do that. Wish I knew what the flashing light on ECU was. |

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
So you replaced the ECU with a faulty unit and then the mechanic replaced the ECU with a good one but left the throttle position sensor wire off which gave you a 7 code. Is that correct?

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
The origional computer failed and was replaced. Then the replacement failed and now I have a third computer which appears to be working fine. I'm not sure why they fail???? A few of the mechanics I talked to said that the computers fail often???? That seems strange. I wonder why they would fail so often. Is it from heat, moisture, chafed wires? Wish I knew but at 230,000. miles I may never know. It would be nice to know if my next Honda has a similar problem.

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
Was the second computer new or from a junk yard? What was the warranty? And no, ECUs don't fail that much. However, when they do fail, they get a lot of attention because they cost a lot.

Re: 92 Accord Starting problems
The second computer came from eBay which worked for about a year. I believe it was rebuilt.
