Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

Itīs simply amazing how far you go for every detail. By now I would have thrown this whole thing into the back of my closet or would have finished it with everything being crappy. Again - respect for all the work ... Thatīs great to see.

Robi, Alessandro could take a pig and turn it into a thoroughbred Arabian stallion! Superb work
I look at his built model and I want to go out and buy one, I look at the the kit photos and I am glad I didn't! LOL

Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

Gio, thank a bunch for the comparo. I think Hiro rims look more to scale actually. Given that they have correct centers, and also correct spokes, I think I will go with original wheels. Btw, look at the panel gaps on the original!

Robi, thanks for the additional photos. Alessandro did excellent job on this kit!
Steve, yeah, this kit is one of the worst Hiros. But oh well - like we have an alternative for this car!

Thank you all!

Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

This is my first post, I am a new member at the forum and must say that your Ferraris are nothing short of spectacular!!!

This one in particular show how a great hand in scale modeling can take something as bad fitting as this model and turning it in something spectacular, can't wait to see more of your updates on this build.....one thing I am sure, it will be spectacular as your past models.

Fred

Obviously MFH has absolutely no shame. That crap, to me, is totally unacceptable. White metal is a terrible material, they only use it because the spincasting molds are cheaper and they can melt it back again and reuse it.

Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

This would be my last one about the kit's quality, since I would like Alex' thread free from my dirty.

I have no convenience to defend MFH (and they don't need it) but from the small scuderia's experience I know white metal casting cost like resin casting or more, with the plus that you will easily obtain thin parts like body shells without deformations, or at least with the chance to correct shapes, anyway this is not my point: I think peoples that share passion trough their job, like Hiro, Paul Fisher, Mike, HRM, sometime Etienne, just to mention a few, deserve my consideration as modeler and consumer. This allow me to digest also some difficult stuff, since I know there are also some gems, like the 312PB or the 33s: but there are great stuff also inside the kit, you'll see Alex working with something good speaking of mechs. At least I seen worst fittings just speaking of plastic kits, also from mummy Tamy.

Can I add a little "dirty" to your thread also, Alex?

Gio, I honestly agree with absolutely everything you said above. 100%.

But you know what, until someone well informed tells me that there are technical manufacturing reasons why the kit MUST look like that, I will remain surprised and somewhat disappointed that a company such as MFH (for whom I have so much respect overall) will not be willing to go the remaining couple of steps to produce a kit of much better fitment than that.

For me it is a matter of their own self-pride. I don't think it would cost them any (or much) more to produce parts that fit better then in that photo. But again, maybe there are good production reasons...?

I love the subject matter they cover, I love the details they add, I love the packaging they use and, for me, they are worth the price. I don't expect them to be perfect kits that will put themselves together. I do however, think that they could sometimes improve their product by an extra "10%" at no extra cost to themselves (and therefore their customers). Permit me to dream

Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

Guys, I have this kit also and the fit isn't all that bad. It's not great but it's within the skills of an intermediate builder to make it a presentable model. (The whitemetal bodies of the 330/412 prototypes and the Porsche 962 are almost unbuildable, however.) I do agree that for the prices they charge, they should be giving us thin sharp resin, not amoebic blobs of whitemetal to hammer and grind into a body panel!

I love Hiro kits but I've started avoiding anything with a wm body. Perhaps if we all emailed MFHiro with our overall dissatisfaction with whitemetal body panels they would phase out this practice? They do such nice resin bodies I simply can't understand why they continue to use it. Within that email we could also make a request that they improve the finish of their whitemetal engine and chassis components too! Times are rough for the industry right now and they just might be willing to listen to us and make some improvements with future kits.

Re: MFH Ferrari 512BB LM - Alex's Next Double Build

Yeah, let's dirty this thread up! :-)
I think that we need Hiro to release a long-awaited 250 TdF and 250 MM and 330 LMB. I've seen prototype masters 3 or even 4 years ago, and no models still. I'm starting to think we-ll never see them.....
I don't mind Hiro's quality. It could be better, and I'm pissed when it is crappy, but oh, well. I'd rather have these kits in crappy quality, than don't have them at all.
