Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

ok, further progress...

the shell is now just about modified and ready for paint...

I had to do a little work around the lower windscreen area (as mentioned before) and also add a little to the door surrounds (the renaissance doors are a little on the small side)

the bonnet and rear surround for the front wheels, again a little extra was needed to be added to the bonnet where I had sawn it from the main shell, just to get a neater finish when this sits in position on the car

these are how I am going to hinge the doors, I have made some door hinges from etch spru and will attach them to the doors using ca glue, had to do a lot of trial and error with these but you will see once the doors are on the fit suprisingly well.

its not like renaissance to be inaccurate but check out how much I had to add to one of the doors in order for them to be equal, very strange indeed however its done and finished now

added the remaining details to the front end, these were all taken from the spares box and altered to match the parts on the car (with a little artistic licence thrown in ) I also have managed to box in this area now...

this fits well now and no longer has any big gaps around the radiator and wheel arches.

with the front closed up, this fits ok like this - hopefully the layers of paint won't change it too much

finally...

I have sprayed and 95% decaled the engine cover, no drama's here, I have yet to add some 2 part clear. The decals however were surprisngly delicate for Tamiya and took a lot of patience and care...

added the etched Gurney Flap onto the spoiler and used the etch end plates too, the black supports are CF'd.

thats it for now - thanks for all your comments - greatly appreciated as always. As for the version - well I guess it's not a 1996 or 1997 car - somewhere in between me thinks, I'm not gonna worry too much!

Very nice work Sean. That livery is really cool!

As for the accuracy of Renaissance resin parts.....i could tell some horror stories :-) I always get lured by all the PE and turned parts to buy the kits and then comes the resin...:-(

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

Nice work Sean. Do the door handles line up on both sides with the extension required? If they don't , and you haven't painted them yet, it may be possible to cut the door panel using horizontal lines just past the existing handle depression into a rectangle and then slide it towards the edge of the door. The only major fix required then would be the hole left where the part came from and some minor filling where the cuts were? Does that make sense??

yeah that makes sense Rob, my wording was crap though. The alteration I have done on one door needs doing to the other too in order to match the gaps in the shell, once finished both doors will be the same. Essentially both Renaissance doors were about 3mm to small in length, hope that makes sense.

should have some more progress on this posted later today

Re: WIP: 1/24 Porsche 911 GT1

Finished...

will get a completed thread up shortly-ish with a few more pics and the rest will be on my site. A big thank you to everyone for the encouragements as usual, and an extra big thanks to Stevanski for the spare kit - it proved to be invaluable.

Next up is a 1997 Mitsubishi Evo IV WRC from Hasegawa, strictly OOB though.
