thats cause Kiwi's don't realise that vowels are meant to have "short" and "long" sounds... and when you look at some of the place names and stupid words over here you can see how it got all stuffed up! I blame the mauri's for not having their own written language and failing to use an existing language properly! Then changing the way they pronounce their own words regularly and making the rest of NZ do the same... it's bound to confuse people!

Aus and NZ have a variety of accents...
NZ has south island, north island, and i guess polynesian? (pretend gangstas)
Aus has more... Queensland is pretty distinctive... WA, Adelaide, Victoria... people all have diff accents.

ROFL!!!!!! I'm guessing that the majority of the people who move to Australia from NZ are Polynesians, that'll explain the Australian misconception of Kiwi accents......

But I can tell when someone is from Southland (VERY distinctive accent and a few different pronunciations/words), Taranaki, Auckland/Wellington (The two cities have very similar accents), the Cantebury and a place with a denser population of Maori/Polyneisans (*cough* South Auckland and Northland *cough*)

Gee, I wish I could be outhandled by a kid on a plastic trike. But then again, I dont expect an american to be able to comprehend more than one thing at a time. ie - driving fast AND cornering. I'll admit V8's are great when one can be beaten by UNDER a suburb when the roads become anything but straight.
