91 3800 speed sensor function?

I had a 91 Buick Regal with a 3.8L V6.
The engine is now in a different rwd car. the other car has no electronic speed sensor, ie. it's cable driven.
now i know that the computer needs to know the speed so that it knows when to lock the torque converter, and i know that it activates different systems when it notices that the car is moving.
however, i do not know if needs it for anything else. i found a pulse generator for it, but it does not produce anywhere near the amount of pulses per mile that the computer wants (produces 4,000 per mile, computer wants 45,000).

With that in the car, it'll at least know that the car is moving. I'll have a manually controlled torque converter so that's not an issue.
so does anyone know what if anything else does it need the signal for?
Thanks in advance.
