The hypertech just increases the line pressure a little, so I wouldn't call it a shift kit, such as the transgo, but I really think it saved my tranny. A vette servo will run you about $15-20. Not alot of money at all and fairly easy to install. My tranny was shifting perfect at 126k. I had to send it in for a core charge on my built one. There is NO way it would have held this new setup. If you do decide to get the servo and have the shift firmness on on the hypertech, you will notice how much better it feels between shifts. If you decide to get a shift kit, remove the shift firmness from the hypertech. Too much line pressure will surely kill a stock tranny. They will hold alot of abuse. Trust me, I have a stack of timeslips from my old setup, and it never so much as acted like it was going to slip.

Re: Re: Re: 5.3 Rev and shift points for 2003

I heard that the reason the shifts were intentionally softened was because the 4l60E had a habit of puking its guts when they put it behind the 6.0L. Sounds like the dealer was giving me a load of crap.

My first tranny lasted 126,000 with the firmness on, and it was still chirping second when I sent it in for the core charge. The only time the 4l60e starts to have real problems is when torque management is removed without a shift kit or at least a corvette servo. You should ride in a truck with 0% torque management sometime. It feels like an entirely different truck between shifts.

Re: 5.3 Rev and shift points for 2003

I had a hypertech chip on my 01 Chevy 1500HD 6.0L but found it did not seem to give the truck as much of a kick as the super chip's one i had. So i bought a superchips one, I have it tuned to what i feel is allright. I was hoping that someone can help me set it up perfect, eather for regaul or Primium gas. I have it set on primuim right now, but 80-90$ a week is starting to hurt the books. any help would be great. Thanks!

Re: 5.3 Rev and shift points for 2003

Hypertech tuner is not a shift kit!!!! It just programs the tranny to shift firmer so that it doesnt slip. It does this by tightening up the line pressure. A shift kit would be something mechanical (not electric like a tuner) that enhances the amount of the line pressure that can be used in the tranny and hold it sufficiently!!

I was thinking the same thing.. I have 2000 Silverado Z71 with 145K miles on it. I have not had any problems with the tranny.

Re: 5.3 Rev and shift points for 2003

It's really all in how you drive the truck. I went a ton of miles with the stock motor and limited track/racing appearances. I went almost a year on the fully built 60e with every weekend track appearances and alot of street racing.

And that should do it
P.S. only do it this aggressive if you have Intake, Exhaust, Headers, and 160* tstat
What should it be if you only have intake? I have 2005 5.3l 4.10 crew cab Z71

Would you apply the same settings to a 05 Z71 with 5.3, K&N intake, flowmaster exhaust?

thanks
