Revell / Monogram Ferrari 308 GTB
A quick kerbside build (a vast total of 43 parts!!) that I started recently. A very simple kit, but all the parts fit together well and imho it will display very nicely as a shelf model, as the exterior and interior are nicely detailed. Chassis / suspension detail is incredibly basic (one piece, with straight through axles and no brakes).
A few pics of the body after painting (couldn't bring myself to paint this one red as I think that they look so good in gunmetal): ![]() ![]() ![]() This was my first attempt at metallic paintwork and turned out very nicely. The colour is just a normal Halfords basecoat & lacquer and actually looks darker in real life. The interior is red with black dash and sections of the doors. Apologies for the bad pics - the weather is foul at the moment & I still haven't got the hang of the lighting for indoor shots ![]() ![]() ![]() For some reason, the black areas look different tones in the pics, but in reality they match up fine. Wierd... Anyhow, still needs all the detail painting, but nearly there! And finally a few trial assembly photos: ![]() ![]() Wheels still need a dark wash to bring out the detail, and I also need to do all the body badging decals.

I agree, gunmetal is much better than red!

Re: Revell / Monogram Ferrari 308 GTB
Hello!
I like the color scheme you chose. I've also built it and you're right: a very basic but nice kit. Mine is gun metal too but with a beige interior. It's the kind of car that looks great in any color! I saw one in Marrone Metallico and that one looked beautiful also. Maybe I'll build it someday. |

Re: Revell / Monogram Ferrari 308 GTB
Found the can - it's Ford graphite Grey metallic. Had some decent weather the other day so took a few more pics:
![]() ![]() ![]() (At the moment the side mirror is just held on with bluetack...) And one showing the underside & how basic it is! ![]() However I'm very glad that progress has been slow and that I hadn't applied the decals as there appears to be a problem with the paint on the roof. It won't show up in photos, but the lacquer is crazing / cracking The paint was done a several weeks ago and has been fine up until a few days ago. I can feel the resulting grooves with my fingernails, so I doubt that the lacquer is deep enough to withstand being sanded down without going through to the basecoat.Anyone know what went wrong? The rear deck / engine cover is showing slight signs of it too, but so far the rest of the paint looks unaffected so I want to avoid respraying the whole car. Would just building up a few coats of lacquer and then cutting it back be a viable solution?

Re: Revell / Monogram Ferrari 308 GTB
Is it primer, base (metallic) then clear?
Are all the products the same brand? Was it moulded in red? ...?

All the paints are the same brand (Halfords, not sure what the actual type of paint is but it's compatible with Tamiya aerosols). The plastic itself was white.
