Passat shaky , then wont start
Ok so this is for my girlfriends car- 99 passat 1.8t, she said she was driving back from school , pulled up to her house put it in park and the engine was shaking awkwardly, so she shut it off and started it again and the check engine light blinked on still with the shaking, turned it off, started it again in the morning and would only turn over with no start, it just kept turning over, so i thoght maybe bad spark plugs , i replaced the plugs, (not the coils) plugs looked good by the way, tried to start it with the same problem...no start just turning over, any clues?

I am no mechanic by any means but your problem sounds like one that had with another car I owned. Sounds like the timing belt may have went. Does the car turn over faster when you try to start it? If yes, more than likely it is your timing belt. If not, I have no clue. Good luck.

Without doing further damage, tow her vehicle to the dealer. If it's the timing belt you can cause futher damage if you continue to try and start. Your problem could also be as simple as a fuel pump and or fuel pump relay switch.
Also, have your girl check with her auto insurance for the towing. It could be on her policy and could reduce your repair cost. ![]() |
