Re: Initial D f**ked up

i dont see how holding the shifter would put any stress on the clutch. i think whoever said that constantly holding the shifter will put un-necessary stress on the clutch was talking crap. the only way you'd put un-necessary stress on the clutch would be to clutch kick, high-rev clutch drops, too much torque through a clutch that can't handle it or to do something like put the car in high gear and pop the clutch at high revs, with the car at a low speed.

Alright well what if you were to push down on the shifter, straight down against the gearbox while you were driving. What would that do?

And-- the anime portrays holding the shifter all the time to be a good and natural thing, not everyone knows about clutches, so they might mess up and think it's cool to keep their hand on the shifter and push down on it at times, not knowing what they're doing.

If i'm wrong, I'm wrong but i think everyone was misunderstanding me

Re: Initial D f**ked up

don't care, I get the fansubs XD

in Japan, each episode takes a while to get made so it's not on regularly, but it's over now anyway.

Re: Initial D f**ked up

ok

the whole "resting your hand on the shifter causing clutch damage" thing.

it won't damage the clutch at all.

what it will do is wear out the shift forks and syncro collars in the transmission. it makes perfect sense if you think about it. the forks that actually slide the syncro collars and lock a gear to to the shaft are in contact with the syncro collars. the only thing that keeps the rotating syncro from wearing metal to metal with the fork that rides on it is a thin coating of gear lube. this lube is easily driven out by adding weight on the shifter (like resting your hand)

it will cause premature syncro and shift fork wear.

you will never see a proffessional driver resting his arm on the shifter. not even rally drivers who are shifting constantly.

initial d does kick ass, but is far from being 100% accurate.

Racing puts unneeded stress on the engine. People still do it. It's a work of fiction and not meant to be an instructional video. Just enjoy it for what it is.

Btw, how are you guys seeing the other seasons? The farthest I got was when he raced the Turbo Eight-Six, and even then I missed a bunch before that race.

Re: Initial D f**ked up

If you want to watch third of fourth stage, in really good quality, look around for complete boxsets.

If you can find it on amazon also, it's good quality. I got an amazing Outlaw Star boxset with the japanese uncut and english dubbed uncut episodes, from one of the million amazon sellers stores.
