Initial D f**ked up

Finally a car-anime crossover thread, if you've seen fourth stage, you'll remember the race with God Hand, he drives the S2000 and holds his hand on the shifter for the duration of the race.

I just learned in auto class that doing this may look 'cool' but It puts unneeded stress on the clutch. Does anyone else think this? Why would initial D promote something like that...I thought they knew all about driving...

Re: Initial D f**ked up

They screw up a lot. Do you really think a drifing 86 is faster than an rx7, s2k, r32, or any of the ohter cars he's raced?

Re: Initial D f**ked up

Uh, yeah. Its not just a TV show. There is some truth behind it. See, mountain roads are narrow and have small tight turns. The only reason the AE86 wins usually is because the fact one its lighter and because well takumi is just a better driver than most of the people he's raced at first. There is one fake thing in initial d. The gutter technique. I think that'd be impossible.

Re: Initial D f**ked up

I don't see how holding the shifter would effect the clutch unless you were applying pressure to it. BTW it's a cartoon for god sake

gee, why are you here?? this is the anime forum LOL
where was I...because Initial D is very realistic at times, sometimes not at all, Takumi used to win because the other racers let him win, but now he wins with extreme skill, like turning off his headlights and being a natural in the rain, much like a rally driver. But the car that Takumi drives revs to 11k rpms, with a toyota race engine.

you don't think an old man that holds onto a shifter all of the time doesn't apply any pressure at all?

no it wouldn't. i can shift then hold onto the shifter all the time without applying any pressure just slightly gripping it... you think that isn't possible?

All right everyone, calm down. Take a deep breath, let it in, let it out. It's not an educational show (entirely), it is for entertainment. Just because they didn't draw the dude with both hands on the wheel, doesn't mean they don't know, doesn't mean it matters. They drew him like they did for an image they wanted to portray. Why? I don't know, that's how life works.

As for many of the races, explain this real life scenario:

My friend in his STOCK WRX (not STi) beat a modded SRT-4. With the weight difference and work done, the SRT-4 should have easily won, why didn't it? Driving ability is so important. No one realizes that you could have 15,000,000,000 WHP and lose to a go-cart if you can't drive.

Re: Initial D f**ked up

What my problem with the scene, or the character themself, was that the creators of the Initial D show/comic were portraying that's it's cool to do that, put stress on the clutch, think about how many people(kids, teens, even adults) see a 'GOD' driver in initial D driving this way, and they go out and do the same thing. It's not a healthy image for people who care about their cars.

As for how much stress is too much, i don't know and I understand sometimes you gotta hold that shift nob, but why all the time? Why purposely?

Do you not understand yet? I can keep my hand on the shifter without doing anything to the clutch just like I can keep my foot on the gas pedal without pressing the gas. How hard is it for you to understand that?

Re: Initial D f**ked up

Well, I understand...Anywho. Takumi wins from sheer luck. All the damn time. Not once has he not gotten a break. I mean a wins a win. But, against the race with the s2k he fucked his suspension up. Then all of a sudden after Takumi was sure he was gonna lose. God Hand pulls over and throws up. ?
Coincedence?...

Re: Initial D f**ked up

maybe god hand puts the left hand on the shifter to bless it? jk.

seriously, for better transition times during gear changes as his hand is already on the shifter and no need to move it from the wheel to shifter.

best scene was with keisuke and god foot's cone duel.

I'll do it! apparently I LOVE fixing broken cars

I was simply stating that in an endurance race it's not smart to apply even more pressure to the clutch. It shakes rattles and rolls for a reason. The shift knob is broken .....

... wait sec that's my car
