If/When was 3.4L Intake Gasket Problem Fixed?

I have a 2000 Grand AM with the 3.4L engine and have fought the dreaded intake gasket problem for years. I am looking to trade it off for a minivan. A lot of the GM minivans I look at (Venture, Montana, Silhouette) share this 3.4L engine. If/when did GM fix this problem? What model years (if any) are safe?

Generally model years 2003,2004, and 2005 should have the revised gasket installed from the factory. GM issued the revised gasket around July of 2002. I haven't heard of the gasket issue cropping up in the aforementioned model year vans.

If the new gasket was put in use in July of 2002, wouldn't 2003 model year vans possibly still have the issue? It is May 2008 and 2009 vehicles are being manufactured. Thanks.

Typically all model years change after the 2 week GM shutdown.changeover the first two weeks of July every year- the only exceptions are when a new body style or name plate comes out as an early introduction-- So a vehicle carryover becomes a new model around July 17 or so........If in doubt- check your driver's door for the day and month of manufacture on the sticker... such as 8/03 means August of 2003

All the 3.4's regardless of year will have a LIM gasket leak at some point. If you buy the car from a lot, get a LIMG repair voucher as part of the deal.
