3.1 or 3.8?
Was a fuel pressure test done or was it just guessing? With just KEY ON, the pump runs for a second then stops and waits for engine to start before coming ON again. 3.1 pressure is 12 psi, 3,8 42psi.

Is the Check ENgine Light ON? ...CHeck for codes here: www.avigex.ca/xport/readingcodes.jpg (jump connect A and B, turn key ON, read CEL flashes).

?!? ...I kind of understand the fuel pump runs and you have fuel pressure...unless you say otherwise. Can you look inside the throttle body and confirm you see a brief jet of fuel at KEY ON ?

I'd pull a spark plug and check for spark....ignition module failure is quite common at that age...and my position here is that having a spare is kind of a must...but check for spark, anyway. Simple things must not be overlooked.

Re: 1993 chevy lumina mini van problems

..failed TPS (throttle position sensor) might very well procure those jerky symptoms. It would light up the CEL with a code 21 or 22. Is the CEL ON?

Is the Check Engine LIght ON ??
If CEL is ON, use instructions above to read the codes. (if you disconnected the battery, the codes are gone).

.You mean the needle goes up and down? That looks like an electrical problem. Ground problems have been reported several times. HOw do all accessories behave? Will power windows , power seat, heater fan all work normally? And other instruments, like oil pressure, tach..?
Use a voltmeter: Do you have 12 V at battery..and once engine is started, what is voltage? SHould be near 14 volts. Did you have to recharge battery lately ?

'94...so it has the rounded headlights (94-96) www.avigex.ca/xport/DSC06466.jpg
and not the wedge shaped type(90-93) www.avigex.ca/xport/headbeams.jpg ..right ?..
and it has a brake light at top of rear gate window...
HOw is the underdash plug for the computer:
Does it have connectors A and B? If B is not there, it needs to be read with a scanner.

Timing?...the distributor would have to have been rotated....YOU said you had spark.... so try to borrow a timing light and clear that issue...and once started it runs normally..right..except when you waht to accelerate, it starts bucking, as I understand. What speed can (could) you reach ?

Without adequate tests, this is all guessing.
Arrange to measure fuel pressure. YOU must have 12-14 psi!! It is "possibly" , may be probably OK..but until measured, it is not proven.

...I still suspect the ignition module......
a high risk item at that age...(this is guessing)....

Wink Re: 1993 chevy lumina mini van problems

Could be plugged catalytic converter in exhaust. Try cutting pipe in two, just ahead of converter and start engine. You can install a short connector pipe and clamps to reconnect. My '91 did similar and drove me nuts....it was converter.
