960 Wagon tranny trouble
I have previously posted a problem with my daughters 92 960 wagon ( 165k ) regarding a strange involuntary change from economy to winter mode while driving under normal conditions. This is usually accompanied by a continuous flashing of the mode light. She had the PMP switch ( replaced 2 yrs ago) checked out on diagnostics but that was "OK". Other diagnostic codes that did indicate error are:
Code 222 Solenoid " 2 operating circuit Code 113 ( control unit ? ) Code 122 Solenoid " 1) According to the tech - they have never needed to replace a code 113 control unit. Tech says it must be the solenoid " 2 ( inside the tranny ?) which is a major deal, probably not worth the money although the car is in otherwise excellent body / engine condition. My concern is the tech ( Volvo specialist ?) does not seem to know exactly what the cause of the problem is and is guessing that you can try the chip first ( $ 350 ) but if that isn't it - then replace the tranny !!! Why not just eliminate the mode process - she drives in the economy mode anyway. Is this possible as an easy fix ? how ? "V70" are you out there - your thoughts were the PMP switch, but this tech says diagnostics do not agree. Any thoughts ? mfee |

This has happened about 5 or 6 times in the last month an a half and may be happening more often now. It happened to me last weekend in a parking lot and on the second try I jabbed the accelerator once sharply and it fired. My wife tried that tonight with no luck so she let the car sit and came back in an hour and a half and it started right up with the lights flashing. Mark |

Re: 960 Wagon tranny trouble
Volvo Dealer ran the codes on the flashing Trans fault with arrows flashing. Result; bad battery terminals were causing several faults compounded by a "throttle Position sensor" code indicating that component was bad. Less than $300.00 later the car is fixed.

One week later, same thing. So much for the "codes". Back to the dealer on the 22nd. |

Re: 960 Wagon tranny trouble
These have a lot of problems with this flashing. Usually a transmission fluid change and some transmedic and the lights will go out. Otherwise a rebuilt transmission. You may ned a couple of changes or a flush.

Re: 960 Wagon tranny trouble
Take a look at this link to the Brickboard
http://www.brickboard.com/FAQ/700-90...tchReplacement I have a 1992 960 Wagon, too. Just turned over 100,000 miles. At about 85k the W and E shifter lights started the "disco lighting" effect. Follow up with a read on "960/90 Fluid Flush" The results were extraordinary. jeff |
