engine mods
My 99 eclipse is a non-turbo. I'm going to do exhaust, headers and intake for sure. What other mods do you suggest to increase hp without endangering the life of the car (i.e. ruining the transmission, etc.).

best bet is a turbo, spark plugs, new wires, an msd ignition(or someother aftermarket ignition), aftermarket radiator, new cams, new cam gears. I would avoid Nitrous if i were you, unless you wanna fully upgrade your engine, including connecting rods, piston heads, valves and all the likes. i hope this helps some.

Well, while adding a turbo will certainly increase horsepower, it would be a substantial investment ($3-4K). Decide now how far you want to go, modifications-wise, to determine whether it would be better to just trade your car in for a turbo model and go from there.

Power adders all have the same effect. You can run a 50 shot without worrying too much, in the same manner that you can run 7 psi on the turbo kit. Go over a 50 shot and things start going bang. Go over 7 psi, and things start going bang. In order to make max power with a power adder, you will have to rebuild with new rods, pistons, studs and bolts, clutch, and probably rework the crank. Having the supporting mods is the key.
