Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
Here you go bud,
This is the 1986 for Alen. Clear window front and doorside - rears and back smoked. My video refs also show the same for the #6 Lancia on the 85 event. I figure all works cars would run the same config.

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
Well, great job so far: I tought that those panel line could be better after decals ecc. This job promise well and really could be a guide for us all who have the TK. I'm quetly well impressed by the decal's quality.
I only tought that: the TDC car should have tarmac set-up but the RAC car? I guess gravel with narrow tyres. But at least I love the RAC S4 wich I own also in 1/43: can't wait to se yoou at work on interiors and more I unlike to do the Toivonen's accident car, also if like said Miki Biasion Toivonen was the driver who push ever this beast on and over its limits.

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
The weekend went well and I managed to progress the S4 some more. I planned to clearcoat the body parts and polish by close of play Monday. All done! I used Halfords clear lacquer, spraying two mist coats and four wet. The results were very good. If you intend to build this TK I strongly recommend clearing the stripe decals. Whilst they look quite glossy when applied they are a little fragile. When applying the wing decal on the drivers side I split the very end on a red section when using Solvall. I repaired this and another area on the rear wheel arch using some spare decal that comes with the kit. Once cleared it doesn't show, fortunatley. Before clearing I trimmed some excess decal under the rear arches. It came away very easily suggesting there's little adhesive on the decal. Also I had what looked like bubbles on the front passenger side stripe section which despite my attempts to eradicate, I couldn't. The clear has hidden this also.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hopefully you can make out the glossy finish on these pics. Next I will paint the window surrounds and all the areas that are to be black.

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
Looking fantastic.I thought about removing the orange/red sections and painting them and just using the blue stripes when I build mine. But yours have come out well so I'll probably stick with the decals. It will certainly be easier. The finish is excellent you can see the gloss in your pictures, especially the 5th one down and on the bonnet in the last pic.Keep up the fine work.

Thanks Steve. I think having part of the blue section separate from the rest for the front helps. I applied the top part first, then added the lower stripe that sweeps past the wheel arch. There's a bit of an overlap (and therefore a 'bump'), but once again it's hidden under the clear. I working on the Rossi Corolla this week, so I hope to post an update when I have decalled and cleared that as I'm doing the window surrounds on both cars at the same time.

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
I note my last update on this thread was 31st May 2006!! I really must stick with it!!
Since finishing the Rossi Mugello bike, I decided to continue with the resin projects and resurrect this build with the aim of finishing it. It been on my workbench way too long - criminal. I've started work on the chassis. The TK uses the Hasegawa floor pan and rear end, with mods to come somewhere close to the S4 layout. The kit gives you the exhausts, rads, turbo, air intakes etc, but you need to get it all to fit and pinned together. Anyhow - I've cobbled together the upper cage structure from bits of 1.5mm plastic tube and added the resin struts to form a centre brace. from this I have postioned the exhaust and from there everything should fall into place. The exhaust is hung from two pins set in the end of the chassis. The gearbox has had 2mm shaved off of the bottom, so it sits lower.![]() ![]() The huge rear rads then fit onto the two lugs provided on the Hasegawa kit like this.. ![]() Before continuing any further with the body - I cut out the smoked windows. Templates are provided in the TK, but lots of careful trimming was needed. Here's a mock up of the right side... ![]() The window surrounds and sills were painted black... ![]() ![]() Still lots to do. I'm going to get the body insides painted black next and start on the chassis. Next update should be sooner rather than later!

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
A small update;
The chassis now has a couple of coats of Alclad aluminium which replicates the flat look of the real thing quite well. The minor mods are now complete. Just have to paint the suspension arms and I can then start adding bits to it. I'm not worried about the pins marks as they won't be seen on the finished model. ![]() I have also been working on the wheels are tyres. These are all resin and need some adjustment. The rear wheels fit nice inside the tyre, by the time the paint is on, these should look fine. The tyres needed a few holes filled but otherwise they are very round! ![]() The fronts however have a gap between the wheel and tyre..... ![]() I glued on a shim made from plastic card the outer rim of the wheel and sanded it down until to gap was more acceptable. The wheel on the right now looks much better. A bit more cleaning up and these can be painted. Here's the wheels with the aero aides used on tarmac events.. ![]() I have more parts painted and ready for carbon decal, so I should have a more interesting update next time!!

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
Looking really good.Nice fix on the wheels.I have just managed to get a set of the other type wheels used on gravel events so when I finally get round to building mine an 85 or 86 Rac version could be a possibility.

Re: WIP; Lancia Delta S4 86 TDC, Toivonen
How I lost your October's update??!!! Finally one take in hand the Ken's TK and I lost it.... I'm coming too busy, guys.
Great job, really great. I'll say you to have a look at the Capi76's 037 and the way he improoved (scratched?) the gearbox, but I guess with the closed cowl you'll leave also so... I'm perplexed with the smoked acetates, but I guess you checked already your refs.

The works Lancia's ran smoked perspex windows, on the rear and side doors. just the windscreen was clear. I think it makes the car look mysterious and kinda cool! Here's the man doing what he knew how......

Hi Paul
Keep up the good work. Here is a photo of a S4 with the tinted windows. ![]() As you say only the front window was clear. Cheers Martin |
