2001 Focus WRC Martini markings?

I recently found Tamiya's 2001 Focus kit (McRae/Sainz). The kit and box art show Ford logos on the bonnet and doors.

However, some of the (very few) pics I've been able to find of this car show Martini logos in these places.

So I'm wondering, should it me Ford markings or Martini? Is this a case of the car ran with Ford markings in some rallies, and Martini in others? Or was it only run in Martini, and Tamiya had trouble getting licensing to include the Martini logos for the kit? If so, are the supplemental Martini logos availible somewhere? I've done a search and found little to straigten this out.

I'm planning to do the car as it appeared in Monte Carlo in '01. Thanks!

As far as I know on the Monte Carlo rally the Ford Focus only had the Martini logo's fitted when in the principality of Monte Carlo itself.When out on the stages the Martini logo's are removed.I believe this is because alcohol and cigarette advertising is only permitted in the principality of Monte Carlo and is banned elsewhere.So the cars only have the Martini,Marlboro logo's etc fitted at the start of the rally and they are removed when they go onto the stages for legal reasons.The same is true on the Mitsubishi's when they were sponsored by Marlboro.

You're certainly correct with regards to tobacco- but I don't think that holds true for alcohol. McLaren carried Johnny Walker sponsorship in European races this year.

I don't really know why (could alcohol advertising be banned in France but not elsewhere?), but that car definitely had Martini logos for the "ceremonies" and Ford logos for actual stages at Monte Carlo rally in '01. I have a few pictures (not that good) if you're interested.

Edit: just confirmed that there were no JW logos at the French GP this year, but they were on the bargeboards in, e.g., Spain and Italy.

Alcohol advertising is indeed banned in France (football is another area to highlight this).

It's not a Europe 'thing' it's a France 'thing' whereas alcohol and tobacco advertising are only allowed in the principality of Monaco and are banned in the rest of France.The reason the McLaren's carry the Johnny Walker sponsorship on the European Grand Prix's is because they are not in France.As far as I am aware alcohol advertising is allowed in the rest of Europe.

I think the Martini logo's are the same on the older 1999 Ford Focus.You can get the decals from various rallies at Mediamix Hobby and the Martini logo's are included.

Regarding Mclaren and the JW logos, that is only the brand logo which is owned by Diageo, on events where alcohol advertising is banned the cars run the Diageo logo.

Incidentally, Diageo are the largest distillers in the world ahead of Bacardi and Absolut.

I confirm that Alcohol advertisement is not allowed in France, whereas it is in Monaco, like tobacco ads are.

I also confirm that it's not only a french affair because such ads are also banned from cars in Sweden.

I had no idea. I guess I figured that because the tobacco advertising ban is EU wide that an alcohol ban would be too.

So were Monte Carlo and Sweden the only rallys where the Ford logos were used?

Ales, I'd appreciate any pics you have- I've been struggling to find pics of this one.

I suppose while I'm already asking for help with my homework

, I know I've seen a PE mask somewhere for the Ford logo on the front grille (maybe on a set with a 206 and STi logo?), but I seem to be having trouble finding it again. For anyone who's done it, is a PE mask the best way of painting it? Funny that Tamiya doesn't really recommend a method- can it reasonably be done by hand?

Renaissance offered the PE mask, I have one from a Studio27 PE set which is excellent. I've used the PE masks on both my 206 and Focus and I think they're indispensable.

I don't mean to hijack this thread but you guys may be able to help on a similar subject. I have this kit (1999 Monte Carlo Ford Focus - Tamiya 24217)....

Was this car driven by McRae/Grist? If not then who drove it? Anybody know why Tamiya didn't include drivers names, etc on either the decals or the documentation?

Incidentally, Tamiya have included the Martini decals in this kit although they aren't shown on the box art. I guess this is to overcome alcohol advertising laws - but no replacement 'Ford' decals here.

A little research goes a long way

that car was driven by McRae. There's always been some speculation around the driver names being excluded - maybe Ford hadn't confirmed their driver lineup at the time the kit was released?
Driver name decals are available from the same online store I linked to above.

. I saw the decal sets at Mediamix and it made me curious - Not being a regular rally enthusiast myself I'd always assumed it was just a generic model.
