Hmm, I wonder if anyone knows...
where I could get a crate containing the Chrysler (or Benz, if you wanna call it theirs) 3.0 CRD, or why nobody has them? I know it won't pass smog, but what if its not going into a vehicle (it would be, but why should they know that)?

Physically getting the engine is the least of your worries. You'll need the whole computer and wiring to run it. Integrating it into your car will be a challenge.

Yes, the v6, which is in the new Grand Cherokee, and I think also the 300C.

Ahh, got ya. Those inline 5's have cost lots of people lots of money! They have developed a bad reputation for needing a complete rebuild at around the 100,000k mark. I used to work for NZ largest fleet operator. A number of contractors all tried the sprinters, as they are fantastic to drive, and have huge amounts of room. But far to many of them suffered engine failures at should be considered low milage for a commercial engine. All but a few of them switched to Toyota Hi-Ace's very quickly. The current Ford Transit isn't much better by the way.

When Ford NZ was asked why one had shit itself after only 150,000kms they said "that was really quite high kms you know, and any motor would need work after that sort of millage".

So nothing has changed in 60 years? Two engines in the same van, both serviced by Ford NZ, and both needed to be rebuilt with oversize pistons at just around the 150,000k mark. When asked about it, Ford NZ said it was quite normal, and with in the expected lift span.
