Completed: 1/24 Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz

Overall, im fairly pleased with the finished model, however I have to admit that it isnt perfect. The roll cage was an awful fit and as you can see from the pics doesnt fit straight at all, this was the result even after I removed it once and 'modified' it. If I had wanted to spend even further time I would have taken the whole thing apart and rebuilt it from scratch but that would have meant far too much work than I wanted to put in (and I also cant to get on with my next project too )

Overall the transkit is an excellent version of an important car in WRC history however I wouldnt recommended a beginner taking it on, there is alot of filling and modifying to do to make it look reasonable, on a plus side teh decals really suprised me and saved a lot of masking and spraying.

Enough already... here's the pics.

thanks again to one and all for the kind comments, I'll have more pics of the car on my website over the next week or so...

now onto my first 1/12 scale kit... and a late entry into the Ferrari 60th Anniversary Group build the 1970 312B.

Nice work Sean,as usual.I wouldn't have noticed anything wrong with the rollcage unless you had pointed it out and even then I had to look closely. It doesn't detract from the overall finish which is very impressive. It really is quite a nice looking car when complete. You've certainly given me plenty of 'food for thought' for when I build mine.Well done and good luck with the 1/12th Ferrari build,I'll look forward to following it.

Re: Completed: 1/24 Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz

fantastic. I actually followed the build up (well for about the last week or so, when I found it).

I would like to get some components from that transkit, but not all the rally stuff, I'd like to make an awd street bruiser out of that kit, I think it would be fun and different.

anyway, you did a fantastic job! just call the roll cage "pre damaged" haha

Wow, Sean, you built a great model !
this transkit isn't perfect (roll cage is die-cast level ! ) especially according to your skills but you achieved something really good with it.
this is a very nice model from a great looking car built so nicely.
Hope I'll be able to do the same with mine...
Moreover you work very fast... So all contrary of me... uhhh
Thanks for sharing your great rally cars builds !

Thanks Steve,

I would recommended before you do anything to get the roll cage put together and dry fit it into the chassis along with the dash, both interior door panels and then fit the shell over it, you will then be able to see where (and not IF!) it needs alterations doing. I also forgot to mention the radiator was too high too and I had to remove that and re-position it slightly.

sounds like a fun project - you will probably not have to worry about the fitting problems too!

Phil, I think Die-cast level is a compliment to the kit!!! Anyway, Im sure you'll do the kit proud when you build it - we must do another joint build again soon. I find it much easier copying your ideas from your builds :-)

thanks again to everyone for their kind comments, Im in the middle of reading books and studying pictures now for my 312B (1/12 is a big, big scary world)

Oh, thank you for these kind words, I wouldn't have thought I could bring even the smallest piece of inspiration to one masterbuilder like you

And thanks for inviting me to a joint build, that would be a big honnor !
Hope I would be able to take up the challenge (especially speed of building ! )
But I'm Ok to try that once by choosing a rally car we both may have to build and why not...?

Re: Completed: 1/24 Toyota Celica GT4 Carlos Sainz

Oh, my god! The car looks very pretty. I like very much Toyota cars and I like Carlos Sáinz driver.

Is a good work, congratulations.

The car is a Tamiya Celica 2000 GT-R ? Who is the maker of the transkit?

See you.
