Unhappy Vapor Recovery system

We recently purchased a 99' 740i and there is only 4000 miles left on the factory waranty and we have a problem. When we fill the fuel tank up and we park the car in the garage the fuel vapors are very strong. And we didn't top off the filler tube. Has anybody out there have/had this problem.
