Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Does anyone have a photo of this rubber seal under the wiper cowl??

I just had the exact same thing happen to my car... About 1 inch of water on the passenger side floor... And just recently I cleaned out the leaves and stuff from around the cabin filter... I don't remember seeing any other rubber seals in that area... So if anyone has a photo of the seal it would be helpful to me...

Thanks...

Could this be another fuse or do you think a wire may have been shortened out.
Could be anthing with these cars, hard to say

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Sorry to revive an old topic. I just had the same issue with my 04 Impala and the dealership will not help out even though it was purchased less than 3 months ago.
When I pulled apart the cowl the rubber seal was completely off, just wondering if the seal attaches to the bottom of the windshield or to the body just below it?

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I just ran into this exact issue. Posted on the other listing but this is it to the T.
Not at home to check for the fix but I looked at the wiper area before. Do I lift the screen area. I dont understand the exact location of the gasket.

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Just performed the task. About 15min. Had to figure a few things out first.
All form passenger side.
Best todo is turn on your wipers and turn off key when wipers are straight up.(gives easier workng area)
Next remove big looking screw..unscrews just like screw. Next there is 2 pop up clips. Need smaller screw drive to pop up inner portion of hold down clip. then remove the whole clip.(2 of these)
now you should be able to pull up on the shroud. My seal was just laying right there. It is about 1.5ft long. I saw a few post of 6" You can see it the molding is not in its place the rain water will run right into the air filter into the blower housing area then into your interior.
I siliconed the rubber seal back into place and reassembled. Hopefull all is well.

This was done on a 2001 Impala. Getting ready for Tropical storm Fay in Florida.

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

I had the same problem with my car, I found the seal under the cowl was half way off causing water to leak into the carpet. After fixing the seal by siliconing the attachment points, I highly recommend removing both front seats, console (if applicable), rear seat, and finally the entire carpet. Unfortunately if this was just a layer of carpet you wouldn't have to do all this but underneath this particular carpet is about three to four inches of sound deadening foam which soaks up the water like a sponge. I wasn't able to wring out the water so I hung the entire carpet from a wire in my basement and let it drain by gravity. I accelerated the process by running a dehumidifier next to it. Even then it took about three days before the carpet was completely dried out.

Another thing to note is that typically people wash their cars using the auto wash, this in turn I have found saturates the carpet if you have the faulty seal.
