Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

My freind was at my shop today with an 05 impala, when I went to clean and detail his car I noticed that the fr & rear under the carpet was floating in water, i took off the moldings and the back seat, pulled up the carpet and both the fr &rear floor pans were floating in water, she has a bad leak somewhere, anyone else ever had this problem?, I took the hose and started to spray water around the top of the fr glass and there was not much of a leak so I soaked the glass down where the plastic piece for the wiper covers that goes over the end or bottom of the windsheild and the water was coming inside the car by the blower motor,I took the clips off to get the plastic peice off and the cabin filter was wet and I could see the blower motor, that plastic piece that fits on on the bottom of the windsheid is warped and not sealed to the glass and the water is going down through that ,into the cabin filter to the blower motor and letting in the water to the inside, thats the only thing I can see,it looks like the plastic is suppose to fit snugly onto the glass but looks un even and lets in the water, anyone have any more suggestions before I get him to go to the garage and get this piece replaced, she has warranty on her, thanks.

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Here we go again...

There are a few possible causes for this -- the most common is poor blower case drainage --I would suggest that as soon as possible, get under the dash and remove the blower motor -- it's really easy, three sscrews and it drops right out -- you'll find that it will be wet and probably rusted -- Then in the opening, find out why the water is not leaving the drain in there -- one big problem is that there is cooling hose that directly enters the blower motor armature brushes, if water enters here, the blower motor is not long for this world -- the fan speed (blower motor) resistor pack is also in this water path, and it will also short out, leaving you only high-speed fan operation.

You have to feel around to kind of check for stuff in the drainage areas -- then try to run a coat hangar or something through the drain hoses that exit in the fendewell door opening. Ideally, you want the stuff to dislodge out, but it may just go back into the case -- so that's why removing the blower motor helps.

Also, if you look up into the case, you should see a filter -- the cabin filter -- this should be there, if it's missing or looks bad, it can be replaced from the top.

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Is it me or is this seal the problem 9 out of 10 times?

I bought my '03 used from a dealer. They replaced the passenger compartment filter before I bought it. The first rain after my purchase, easily 3 gallons of waters in the front. I hopped on here, found all of the possible reasons and started to deduct all of options. Then when I called the dealer I bought it from and told them I wanted them to clean the water and carpet and repair the issue. They told me their "leak guy" had to look at it and determine the cause. Plus they wouldn't clean it or give me a loaner for the hours they had my car. So, I said forget them, got some marine caulk from Auto Zone, replaced and caulked the seal and have not had a problem since.

I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO CONTRIBUTES TO THIS SITE. ALL OF YOUR INPUT IS EXCELLENT AND HAS HELPED ME WITH ALL OF MY VEHICLES FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS.

I had this problem as well. Now my Fan Motor is ruined. I have fixed the leak, a little late for my fan. Is it difficult to change the fan motor? I can see it from under the dashboard. Also, would this cause the radio to stop playing? It still turns on but produces no sound.

Thank you

you probaly have a broken wire inthe back pass side under the carpet in the wiring harness, just fixed my problem today, where the floor was wet it has some of your wires corroded, take up you carpet in the back right hand side, pull the wires out of the harness and look for the orang wires, they are the power wires for your stereo, look for the orange wire which has a 2 inone like a fusible link type, pull on it to see if it is broke, more then likely it is,just cut the wires and put a new one in to join it back remember to put the wires back together with the 2 orange ones together into the other orange wire like a 2 in one, this will make your stereo work again, while your at it check all of them to make sure they are all good, when your finished retape all the wires with black take to prevent anymore water getting in there to rust them out.

your going to have to take out your pass side seat.haul up the carpet and suck it out with a shop vac,you can stick some braces like pieces of wood or plastic under your carpet to let the underlay drain untill it dries,if not it will be wet forever, then check your wires in the harness in the back pass side, take it out of the case and check your wires to see if they are corroded from the moisture and or water, the one for the stereo is the common one to break or corrode it has a somewhat of a fusable link that breaks,it is the orange wire that has 2 going into one orange wire that controls the power for your rear amp and stereo that when all of these impalas the stereo gives out when this wire is bad.

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

The same thing happened to my car last week. My lighter does not work(when i push it in it just stays in unless i pull it out and does not pop out and doesnt heat up either) and also the light behind the right temp. switch is out. These problems were happening before the leak in my car i just never got the chance to get it looked at. Do you think those problems are related to the leak? And around how much should i be looking to get these all fixed. I have a 04 impala.

definatly, just take the plastic piece of the bottom of the right side wiper arm, very simple, when you get that off there is a rubber strip about 4-6 inches long,it might be off or just not sealing properly, take it off and put anylind of silicone on to seal it properly, that will fix it, then check under your carpet pass side fr&back, if full of water take off you door sill molding, take out the pass seat, 2 bolts in the back lift and tilt out, get something like some sticks off wood to hold up the carpet and squeeze as much water out you can, then shop vac it out, I left my up to dry for about 3-4 days

Re: Water leak on passenger side fr& back, under the carpet was over 10 gallons of water

Thanks for the response. The black weather stripping had fell off just like yall said. I also checked under my carpet, it was only a lil damp so i used a towel to clean that up. The lighter was just a broken fuse. The only thing that still doesnt work now is 1 of the climate control knobs. It works fine but it doesnt light up at night(the left knob lights up though). Could this be another fuse or do you think a wire may have been shortened out.

No, the bulbs are famous for blowing in these cars,if your car has warranty then G.M replaces the whole unit, if you don't then just leave it or pull it out ,take it apart, pull out the bulb, they are sodered on,bring it to an electronics store and see if they can match up a bulb??
