4.6 dohc interference?

some quick qs;

is the 4.6 dohc from the markViii or cobras a interferience motor?

does any of the ecus have eprom chips? or 24 bit chips that i can flash from home for cheap?

does anyone know a good/cheap place to get forged interals for the motor?

what is forged already in the motor?

do these respond well to turbos? or twins?

and lastly what manual trannies go behind this? can the old 5 speed from the 5.0 hook to this motor (86-93)

Re: 4.6 dohc interference?

Well the Cobras already have a better trans than the old fox body mustangs. The motor uses timing chains not belts and is really not considered to be an interference motor. After that, I don't really know what cobra you are talking about. The 96-98 Cobras are different from 99-01 Cobras and the 03-04 Cobras are also different. They all have 4.6 DOHC motors but they are all different. Only the 03 and 04 have forge internals, and they respond very well to turbos, being that they are actually already supercharged.

Re: 4.6 dohc interference?

Everyone makes forged internals for them. Ford makes them even. Pick up a Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords at the supermarket and you will see plenty of adds. Or just do a quick google search.

Re: 4.6 dohc interference?

I would most likely model the motor after the 03 cobras because its known to work. The 03/04 cobras had 8.5:1 compression.

Re: 4.6 dohc interference?

96-01 cobras come with a forged crank. stock engine will take 8-12psi safely (12 intercooled) 10 w/o. but then again it's not a definite, if you don't have it tuned properly it won't take 5psi without blowing up.

Re: 4.6 dohc interference?

The Mark VIII are not built for higher HP, the cranks are weaker and other internals, Get a Mustang SVT engine. A bullit is the same engine as the mark VIII.
