Ferrari 360 Spider Topless Trio

Here is my latest completion- Tamiya's Ferrari 360 Spider. This is my contribution to the Topless Trio group build that Klutz_100, Gionc and I have been working on for the last year or so. My progress thread is here.

Tamiya's 360 is exactly what you'd expect- a terrific kit in nearly every way possible. As far as I'm concerned, if it has any real shortcoming at all it's that the interior details (engine and suspension) are practically invisible- like on the real 360 itself. Although this does possibly make the kit easier to build- which is maybe why I managed to finish it....

This build is largely out of the box. I added machined drilled brake rotors, machined suspension dampers (frustratingly invisible), and converted the transmission from F1 paddle style to 6 speed manual- a minor detail, but as with the paint I just wanted to do something slightly different.

The paint is CobraColors Ferrari Verde Zeltweg- a metallic black green (truely excellent paint, as always). It's certainly a rare color on a Ferrari, but I rather like it. I saw one painted this way when I was in South Beach last year, and liked it more than any red or yellow 360 I'd ever seen. Esoteric taste, perhaps. I nearly always build to strict factory stock, so it was fun to do a build that looks so unconventional while holding to this spirit.

This is a color that truely looks best in bright sunlight- so this is how I chose to show it. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Comments welcome. Thanks for looking in!

Awesome build, paint is top notch. The cones really give it that realistic look. So where are the others? Bunch of slackers!

very beautiful car, excellent choice for color. I like all Ferraris done in a color other than red or black. Keep up the great work

Droolingly cool job, Andy

You hit the color nail right on the head! - both in terms of color choice and (finally) catching it in your photos

A terrific finish to a terrific build in a great project - I am glad I was able to be so close to its genesis

Hi,

unusual colour both - inside and outside, however, it fits in a fanstastic way.

Great model and finish - as always, I like it

Looks good Andy, I'm more surprised that you finished first.

Whoa, beautiful work Andy. A shame about the invisible bits, but what is visible is flawless.

Yeah I know- that's what I was thinking! But my excellent accomplices have been keeping themselves busy with other builds....

Me too, to be honest. This one was delayed alot when I suffered an equipment failure drilling out the brake rotors. Sherline incidentally has excellent customer service.

Superb job, Andy. And I have to agree, I'm surprised any day more about how good and well engineered is this kit, just a pleasure dirty hands with.

Re: Ferrari 360 Spider Topless Trio

Amazing build as always Andy! It really does look like the real thing (the paint, engine, and especially the brake rotors and exhaust)
