how to calculate efficiency of an air/air intercooler?

hi
im trying to calculate the efficieny of an air/air intercooler.
could someone kindly help me on this.

the hot air:
temp in: 60degC
temp out: -14degC

cold side:
temp in: -40 degC
temp out: 34degC

i found it to be 74%.
from
(60--14)=74
(60--40)=100

am i correct?

thanks for help

Re: how to calculate efficiency of an air/air intercooler?

You just measure the air that goes in versus the air that comes out and then compare that to ambient.

If ambient air is 25c, pressurized inlet air is 45, and after the intercooler its 35, your efficiency is 50%. Its the measurement of how effectively your intercooler is capable of returning the intake air back to ambient temp.

Yes, your ambient temp looks like -40*C.
The compressor discharge temp looks like 60*C.
therefore the total temp spread in this environment is 100 *C (that's convenient, don't you think?).
You have removed 74*C with your intercooler (the -14*C).
74/100=.74.
.74*100= 74%

To be truely pedantic.
The correct term is "effectiveness", not "efficiency".

As efficiency implies energy conversion, rather than transfer.

I'm goin' to Thailand early next year. Maybe me and Mr. Webster (of dictionary fame) should make a sidetrip and sort you Kiwis out..

I spent a winter in the US a few years back. I found that while I speak English quite well, my American just sucks.

Mr Collins and Mr Oxford can beat Webster any day.
